Verily our eagerness to reject innovations and evil acts originates from our belief in Allah as our Lord, in Islam as a religion, and in Muhammad as a Prophet and Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم. Hence it is the fruit of our true love of the Messenger of Allah. A love that declares him innocent of any shortcomings in conveying the message (of Islam), and carrying out the trust (which Allah entrusted with him) and being sincere in advising the Ummah. [1]

This love demands that we hold (tight) to what he صلى الله عليه وسلم was upon, and what his fine companions were upon love that calls for treating him صلى الله عليه وسلم according to the rank which Allah gave him. A love that requires us to worship Allah according to what the Messenger legislated. This is by singling out Allah with worship and reverence; with perfect adherence in accordance with and in the establishment of what we received from the guidance, and teachings of the Messenger [2]

It is a love that calls us to hold onto his Sunnah صلى الله عليه وسلم when it comes to his speech, actions and approvals. To reject what was not from his Sunnah صلى الله عليه وسلم from what was innovated in the Deen and from what wasn’t from his affairs صلى الله عليه وسلم. A love that demands that we take him صلى الله عليه وسلم as an excellent example in our pattern of conduct; an excellent example to follow in our speech, actions, manners, behaviour and in the way we treat our Lord, A love that requires us to consider innovations and newly invented matters to be a slander against the message (of Islam) [3], and an allusion to attributing shortcoming to the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم  in showing the Ummah what is good. Nay, how far removed is he from that صلى الله عليه وسلم.

Due to this love, we are not concerned about warning from those who attacked the Message of our Prophet with (any sort of) slander or dispraise. By any disparage by what the people innovate from actions (attributed to the religion) claiming that they are beautiful and good, and claiming they are accepted by the people.

[1] Narrated `Aisha: “Whoever tells you that the Prophet (ﷺ) concealed something of the Divine Inspiration, do not believe him, for Allah said: ‘O Apostle Muhammad! Proclaim (the Message) which has been sent down to you from your Lord, and if you do it not, then you have not conveyed His Message.” (5.67) [Sahih Al Bukhari]

[2] Allah said: “Say (O Muhammad SAW to mankind): “If you (really) love Allah then follow me (i.e. accept Islamic Monotheism, follow the Quran and the Sunnah), Allah will love you and forgive you of your sins. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” [3:31]

[3] Imam Malik said:

“Whoever introduces an innovation into Islam thinking that it is good is implying that Muhammad betrayed his mission, because Allah (SWT) says:

{…This day, I have perfected your religion for you…} (5:3)

So, whatever was not part of the religion on that day, cannot be part of the religion today.”
