How often we read of the actions of the disbelievers and the hypocrites, the evil of their intellects, their flawed understanding and their few manners. We read how they treat the Muslims, moreover how they treated the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم with their evil. We read that in the Qur’aan, for example His saying, the Most High:

And they say: “O you (Muhammadﷺ) to whom the Dhikr (the Quran) has been sent down! Verily, you are a mad man. {15:6}

And in the Sunnah; the speech of ‘Abdullaah ibn Ubai (the head of the hypocrites at the time of the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم):

“If we return to Al-Madinah, the more honourable (meaning himself, i.e. ‘Abdullaah ibn Ubai) will drive out therefrom the meaner (meaning Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)).” {Agreed upon}

He (‘Abdullaah ibn Ubai) described the believers with inferiority, may Allaah deal with him as he deserves.

When we read the likes of these stories, we hate the disbelievers and the hypocrites even more. This is what every believer feels. Though we have not seen them, the Sahaabah did and they had to deal with them.

Zaid ibn al-Arqam said in regards to the ayah “…They are as blocks of wood propped up…” {63:4}:

 “They were the most handsome of men (to look at)” {Agreed upon}

Allaah said:

“And when you look at them, their bodies please you.” {63:4}

It is incumbent upon the Muslim, therefore, that he hates the ugliness of the disbelievers and the hypocrites, even if they are aesthetically pleasing; let him seek refuge from loving them.  In the same manner that he despises those Allaah mentioned in the Qur’aan (“And when you look at them, their bodies please you.” {63:4}, he should despise today’s disbelievers and today’s hypocrites.

Loving them is intense corruption and a dangerous vice. If it enters the heart, it sickens and corrupts it. It is from the illusions of the Shaytan and his misguidance. How numerous are the young men and women who fell in love with the disbelievers!  A love built on the outward appearances. Not only do they feel love for the disbelievers, they call to them, post their pictures on social networks and defend them with money, their selves, and their tongues.

Let the one who believes love the believers, all of them, whether beautiful or not. Let him fear Allaah in his love and his hate and make it all for the sake of Allaah, to gain His reward and His pleasure. After all “the person is with the one whom he loves” (as in the authentic narration).

We ask Allaah سبحانه وتعالى, to clean our hearts from what He hates and fill it with what He loves.
